Talks UN USA Israel Palestine Politics Security ?Negotiations with Israel are meaningless? ? Noam Chomsky

RT talks to academic, linguist, and philosopher Noam Chomsky about the application for the UN to recognize Palestine as an independent state, Israel and the US? unstable domestic situation.

Noam Chomsky discusses the Wall Street protests in the US and says, ?It is about time for some protests. There is a lot of plain criminal activity like selling subprime mortgages, which you know perfectly well are not going to be repaid?.

He says that is what caused the financial crisis, but the banks are left ?bigger and richer than before, corporate profits are reaching record levels?, yet ?unemployment is at about the level of the Great Depression?.

In terms of Palestinian UN bid for full membership, Chomsky says, ?It is true that the US announced that it would cast a veto. Couple of moths ago they cast a veto at the Security Council?.

Chomsky says that Israel has a choice between security and expansion, yet it has been choosing expansion for decades, which it can get away with until the US, EU and other powers continue to support it, states the professor.

Chomsky highlights that it is Israel that is imposing a condition on negotiations, which is settlement expansion.

Palestinians ?know perfectly well that if they go back to meaningless negotiations organized by the US, then they can talk forever, meanwhile settlement expansion will continue?.

When Viruses Invade the Brain

Head Lines | Mind & Brain Cover Image: January 2012 Scientific American MagazineSee Inside

Neurodegenerative diseases may result from a nasal infection

Image: Patrick McDonogh/Getty Images

Neurodegenerative diseases were once considered disorders of the mind, rooted in psychology. Now viruses rank among the environmental factors thought to trigger brain-ravaging diseases such as multiple sclerosis (MS) and Alzheimer?s disease. Human herpesvirus-6 (HHV-6), in particular, has been linked to MS in past studies. Neuroscientist Steven Jacobson and his colleagues at the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke have determined that the virus makes its entry to the human brain through the olfactory pathway, right along with the odors wafting into our nose.

The researchers tested samples of brain cells from people with MS and healthy control subjects and found evidence of the virus in the olfactory bulb in both groups. Infection via the nasal passage is probably quite common, as is harboring a dormant reservoir of HHV-6, but in people with MS, the virus is active. Genetics and other unknown environmental factors probably determine the likelihood of the virus reactivating once inside the brain, which can cause the disease to progress.

The virus appears to invade the brain by infecting a type of glial cell called olfactory ensheathing cells (OECs), which nourish smell-sensing neurons and guide them from the olfactory bulb to their targets in the nervous system. These targets include the limbic system, a group of evolutionarily old structures deep in the brain, ?which is where viruses like to reactivate,? Jacobson explains. He points out that olfactory neurons and their OECs are among the few brain cells known to regenerate throughout our life. This neurogenesis may keep our sense of smell sharp, but at the cost of providing the virus the opportunity to spread.

Mitt Romney Touts Conservative Cred in New Ads

GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney is making a serious TV ad play in the first two primary states, hoping to secure back to back wins and cruise to the nomination.

But can he convince Republican voters he's conservative enough?

He won't fail for lack of trying. The Romney campaign's newest Iowa ad is even called "Conservative Agenda" and vows to make government "simpler, smaller and smarter."

Touting his experience, Romney says he will "get rid of Obamacare" and says that "it is a moral imperative for America to stop spending more money than we take in."

Convinced? Check out the ad below and see:

The January 3 Iowa caucuses are less than a week away. In New Hampshire, which votes January 10, the former Massachusetts Governor enjoys a sizable polling lead.

It shows in his latest TV ad there, which features a more relaxed and uplifting Mitt. "This will be a campaign about the soul of America, about American greatness," he says.

"I'm confident that Americans won't settle. I'm confident that Americans will refuse to be bought off by cheap promises that turn into never-ending debts for our children."

Watch the spot, titled "Earn It" below and see if he can:

'Knock Out': Attacks target random victims

Matthew Quain still struggles to piece together what happened after a trip to the grocery store nearly turned deadly. He remembers a group of loitering young people, a dimly lit street ? then nothing. The next thing he knew he was waking up with blood pouring out of his head.

The 51-year-old pizza kitchen worker's surreal experience happened just before midnight earlier this year, when he became another victim of what is generally known as "Knockout King" or simply "Knock Out," a so-called game of unprovoked violence that targets random victims.

Scattered reports of the game have come from around the country including Massachusetts, New Jersey and Chicago. In St. Louis, the game has become almost contagious, with tragic consequences. An elderly immigrant from Vietnam died in an attack last spring.

The rules of the game are as simple as they are brutal. A group ? usually young men or even boys as young as 12, and teenage girls in some cases ? chooses a lead attacker, then seeks out a victim. Unlike typical gang violence or other street crime, the goal is not revenge, nor is it robbery. The victim is chosen at random, often a person unlikely to put up a fight. Many of the victims have been elderly. Most were alone.

The attacker charges at the victim and begins punching. If the victim goes down, the group usually scatters. If not, others join in, punching and kicking the person, often until he or she is unconscious or at least badly hurt. Sometimes the attacks are captured on cellphone video that is posted on websites.

"These individuals have absolutely no respect for human life," St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay said.

Slay knows firsthand. He was on his way home from a theater around 11:30 p.m. on Oct. 21 when he saw perhaps a dozen young people casually crossing a street. He looked to the curb and saw Quain sprawled on the pavement.

Slay told his driver to pull over. They found Quain unconscious, blood pouring from his head and mouth.

Quain was hospitalized for two days with a broken jaw, a cracked skull and nasal cavity injuries. He still has headaches and memory problems but was finally able to return to work earlier this month. Hundreds gathered in November for a fundraiser at the restaurant where he works, Joanie's Pizza, but he still doesn't know how he'll pay the medical bills.

"I don't remember much of what happened," Quain said. "I was hanging out with a friend, celebrating the Cardinals in the World Series. I went to the store and saw a group of kids who looked out of place, suspicious, but I shrugged it off. I got around to the library, and the next thing I remember is waking up on the corner with the mayor standing next to me. I tried to say 'hi' but my jaw was broken."

It isn't clear how long Knockout King has been around, nor is the exact number of attacks known. The FBI doesn't track it separately, but Slay said he has heard from several mayors about similar attacks and criminologists agree versions of the game are going on in many places.

    5. What kids around the world feed Santa
    6. After Katrina, a promise is kept
    7. Hoop dreams bring Israelis, Palestinians together

St. Louis Police Chief Dan Isom said the city has had about 10 Knockout King attacks over the past 15 months.

Experts say it is a grab for attention.

"We know that juveniles don't think out consequences clearly," said Beth Huebner, an associate professor of criminology at the University of Missouri-St. Louis. "They see something on YouTube and say, 'I want to get that sort of attention, too.' They don't think about the person they're attacking maybe hitting their head."

Scott Decker, a criminologist at Arizona State, said the attacks are a modern extension of gang-like behavior ? instead of painting over another gang's graffiti as a show of toughness, they beat someone up and post a video on social media sites. The postings spur copycat crimes.

"It's adolescent and early adults, largely male, showing how tough they are. It's done to show off," Decker said.

Earlier this year in Chicago, a group of teens followed an elderly homeless man at a train station. One of the teens walked up to him and punched him in the face, knocking him out as the teen's friends laughed and mocked the man. The exchange was captured on video and posted on a hip-hop site, where it got about a quarter of a million views within two days. The teen was not arrested because police couldn't locate the homeless man to see if he wanted to press charges.

The crimes aren't limited to big cities. In 2009, Adam Taylor had just entered a parking garage in Columbia, Mo. Surveillance footage from the garage showed a group of teens following him. One of the teens attacked, punching Taylor and sending him crashing into a brick wall. A few seconds later, the others joined in, punching and kicking him as he lay on the ground. Taylor suffered bruising on the brain, whiplash and internal bleeding but survived.

Hoang Nguyen wasn't as fortunate.

The 72-year-old retired schoolteacher immigrated to St. Louis from Vietnam with his wife less than four years earlier to be near their daughter. The couple was returning to their apartment after walking to a grocery store on an April morning in broad daylight.

They took a shortcut through an alley, where they saw a group of young people approaching. Suddenly, one of them charged. Hoang was attacked as he stepped in front of his wife to protect her. The attack went on as he begged for mercy, she told police.

Hoang died of massive injuries. Elex Murphy, 18, was charged with first-degree murder and allegedly told police the attack was part of the Knockout King game. His attorney declined to comment.

St. Louis authorities are going to the source to combat further attacks. A special police squad has been assigned to focus on Knockout King, and a city prosecutor is designated for the attacks. But Isom said equally important is an outreach effort to talk to students.

"Certainly we take this very seriously and we're making every effort to stop it," Isom said.

Quirks galore in compressed NBA schedule

Carmelo Anthony's return to Denver is delayed for another year. LeBron James and Dwyane Wade won't be visiting Sacramento anytime soon. Fans in Chicago will only be seeing Kobe Bryant on television this season.

The NBA sought competitive balance. What it got was schedule imbalance.

One of the many consequences of the lockout, besides hundreds of lost games and hundreds of millions of lost dollars, was the tradition that every team plays in every NBA city at least once per season. That's not the case this year.

While teams will visit every other team in their own conference, they will only make trips to play nine clubs from the other side of the league instead of the usual 15.

It's one of many quirks of a 66-game schedule that, in a variety of ways, is not like any other in NBA history.

"In some cases, the team business-type might complain that they didn't get (to host) the Heat or the Lakers," NBA Commissioner David Stern said. "While in the background, the coach is doing cartwheels. So it's kind of an interesting dynamic."

There's no shortage of those.

Reigning scoring king Kevin Durant dropped 66 points in New York earlier this year ? alas, at Rucker Park, the fabled outdoor court and not Madison Square Garden. He and Oklahoma City won't be going to play the Knicks this season.

The NBA champion Dallas Mavericks won't be going to Charlotte, nor will Durant's Thunder, Bryant's Lakers or the Spurs, and that will keep ticket dollars from finding Bobcats owner Michael Jordan's pockets.

Teams won't be playing the same number of divisional games, so get ready for complaining should tiebreakers come into play when determining playoff seeding. And many small market teams will be miss out on some guaranteed sellouts against some elite clubs that might hurt in the standings but help with the bottom line.

"That's what happens when you have a lockout," Durant said.

When Magic coach Stan Van Gundy heard the league was putting together a 66-game slate instead of the usual 82-game run, he figured the breakdown was simple: Play every team in your division four times, then face every other team home and away.

That seemed easy enough.

Instead, it's complicated.

"I'm not being critical of it," Van Gundy said. "They've got a short period of time to play 66 games and there were a lot of factors they had to consider and I'm sure that they did it the best way that they could."

True, but there is some zaniness.

Atlanta takes a trip that has the Hawks going north, then south, then north, then west, then east, then west and then home again, all in the span of nine days. Cleveland has a nine-game February homestand. San Antonio goes nearly four weeks without a home game. The Kings close the first half of their schedule with 20 of 28 away from Sacramento, daunting for a team desperate to keep fans engaged while trying to get a new arena. Denver plays nine in a row at home in one stretch, then immediately hits the road for seven straight.

But there's no Anthony homecoming in Denver.

"Did it bother me? Not really," said Anthony, now with the Knicks. "I mean, I would love to go back and play there. The reaction I would get, who knows? I might get some boos, I might get some claps, but it'd have been fun."

Minnesota coach Rick Adelman was thrilled to see his club opens with six of seven at home. And then he looked who those early opponents are ? the first four clubs to visit the Timberwolves are Oklahoma City, Miami, Dallas and San Antonio.

"It's a challenge for us," Adelman said. "If we come out and we're ready to go, and we can knock some of these people off, it's just going to be better for us."

The Wolves don't host Atlanta, Milwaukee, New Jersey, Orlando, Toronto and Washington, teams that perhaps don't inspire the casual fan to run down on game night to check them out, but could be winnable games. They also don't travel to Boston, Chicago, Miami or New York. From a competitive standpoint, not having to play those teams on the road is great for the Wolves. But from a player experience standpoint, the Wolves don't sound thrilled.

"I think we don't go to Miami and Chicago. ... That's a little sad," eagerly anticipated guard Ricky Rubio said.

With this kind of schedule, youth might be served. Washington is expected to open the year with 10 players on the team age 25 or younger. So on those back-to-back-to-back nights, the Wizards might have a touch more spring in their collective step than some other clubs.

"It reminds me of an AAU season ? playing five games in one day," Wizards guard John Wall said. "It can be tough at times, but I think it can help us."

In past years, playing four games in five nights would be considered the worst of the schedule grind.

It's worse this year.

Not only will every team have at least one stretch of playing three games in three nights, but there will also be times when teams play eight games in 11 days. If a key player rolls an ankle, certainly a common issue in the NBA, at a particularly busy time in the schedule, a team could find itself without a key player for maybe 20 percent of the season. And with all those games in such a short span, this much is guaranteed: There will be nights when some teams will know the odds are stacked very, very highly against them, when they're the weary-legged club against a team that's had a couple of days off to freshen up.

"There will be nights when you'll be like, 'OK, well, let's just go try and see what happens,'" Wade said. "It's not going to be easy. For anyone."

Gingrich Is Really Regretting Not Buying ... - Business Insider

A note to all future presidential candidates ? buy yourname.com.

Newt Gingrich provides the latest example of a campaign domain name oversight that is coming back to embarrass him. Gingrich owns Newt.org, but NewtGingrich.com is controlled by someone with very different motives.

The website alternately redirects to a slew of websites with negative association to Newt: from the homepage of Tiffany, to the Freddie Mac homepage, to negative news articles about his campaign.

A search of the Wayback Machine shows that "The Gingrich Group" controlled the eponymous domain name, in 2001, but by 2002 it became home to an internet slot website.

It's not clear who's behind this attack on Gingrich, and the domain is registered anonymously.

Give it a try for yourself:?NewtGingrich.com

UPDATE: Chris Harris, the Communications Director of the Democratic SuperPac American Bridge emails that his organization is behind the prank ? and they're willing to sell the domain back to Gingrich for a fee.

Here's his email to reporters:

As you may have heard, Newt Gingrich doesn't own NewtGingrich.com.?

Who does? We do... But as we just posted on Craigslist, it's now for sale!

http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/doc/for/2763960270.html

With the holiday season rapidly upon us, what do you get for the Republican primary candidate who has everything? American Bridge 21st?Century has the perfect gift:?

NewtGingrich.com

As the people who brought you?RomneyForSenate.com, it?s not that we didn?t have our?own ideas?about what to do with the site. But, in true holiday spirit, we figured it might go to someone with greater need than us. Maybe someone trying to get that?added edge?going into 2012,?or perhaps someone who may have been?too busy?earlier in the year to secure it on their own.

We thought of giving it away, but we wouldn?t want to be accused of being socialists. So, make your best offer. We?re asking for?$1 million, but we?d be happy to accept?$500,000?in bling. Heck in the spirit of Christmas we might even let it go for?$10,000.

China village ends protests after government compromise (Reuters)

WUKAN, China (Reuters) ? Organizers of a Chinese village protest that tested the ruling Communist Party for more than a week decided on Wednesday to end their action after senior officials offered concessions over a land dispute and suspicious death in custody.

Residents of Wukan, in southern Guangdong province had warded off police and held protests over the death of activist Xue Jinbo, whose family rejects the government's position that he died of natural causes, and against the seizure of farmland for development.

But following conciliatory talks with provincial officials, village representatives urged the residents to pull down protest banners and go back to their normal lives -- provided the government keeps to its word.

"Because this matter has been achieved, we won't persist in making noise," village organizer, Yang Semao, told an assembly hall of village representatives and reporters, referring to the protests. He said protest banners would be taken down.

"They've agreed to our initial requests," Yang told Reuters. But he added a caveat: "If the government doesn't meet its commitments, we'll protest again."

Senior officials negotiating with the villagers agreed to release three men detained over protests in September, when a government office was trashed, and to re-examine the cause of Xue's death, a village organizer said earlier.

They and fellow villagers believe he was subjected to abuse that left injuries, including welts, on his body. But the government said an autopsy showed he died of heart problems. Xue was detained over the land protests that broke out in September.

Under a hot afternoon sun, about a thousand villagers gathered to hear another organizer, Liu Zuluan, explain the concessions from the government, which they greeted with loud clapping.

Although the Wukan rebellion was limited to one village, it has attracted widespread attention as a humbling rebuff to the ruling Communist Party, which values stability above all else.

CAUSE TO COMPLAIN

Wang Yang, the Communist Party chief of Guangdong, obliquely acknowledged that the villagers had cause to complain, in comments published on Wednesday in the Southern Daily, the official province newspaper.

"There was something accidental about the Wukan incident, but also something inevitable," Wang said, according to the report.

"This is the outcome of conflicts that accumulated over a long time in the course of economic and social development," said Wang, who is seen by many analysts as nursing hopes of a spot in China's next central leadership.

Guangdong is a prosperous part of China. But the wrenching shifts of urbanisation and industrialization have fanned discontent among increasingly assertive citizens, who often blame local officials for corruption and abuses.

On Wednesday morning, about 300 villagers had lined the sides of a road into the village, preparing to welcome, Zhu Mingguo, the main official negotiating with them.

A man holding a Chinese flag on a pole told the villagers over loudspeaker: "Everyone welcome the Communist Party's work team." Villagers unfurled a banner welcoming officials to come and help "solve the Wukan matter."

The Southern Daily also explained the concessions that Zhu has offered to the villagers, including foreswearing punishment of rioters who "show sincerity in working with the government to solve the problems."

Zhu also promised an impartial autopsy for the late Xue, and "transparent" disclosure in the media of how the villagers' grievances are addressed.

Underscoring government fears of unrest, in a separate protest on Tuesday in Haimen, a town further east up the coast from Wukan, residents demonstrated in front of government offices and blocked a highway over plans to build a power plant.

Pictures on a Chinese microblogging site, Sina's "Weibo" service, which could not be independently verified by Reuters, showed hundreds of people gathered in front of the offices as riot police kept watch.

Congo supreme court upholds president's victory (AP)

KINSHASA, Congo ? Congo's supreme court on Friday upheld President Joseph Kabila's victory following a contested election, raising fears of more violence in sub-Saharan Africa's largest nation because the main opposition candidate already has rejected the results showing he placed second.

The November election was only the second democratic vote in Congo's 51-year history, and the first to be organized by the Congolese government rather than by the international community. Observers have expressed concern about irregularities, saying voter turnout results were impossibly high in some districts.

Kabila, Congo's incumbent president, had faced 10 candidates in the November election, including Etienne Tshisekedi. The 78-year-old longtime opposition leader is enormously popular with the country's impoverished masses, and violence is feared if Tshisekedi orders his supporters to demonstrate.

Another opposition candidate had appealed to the supreme court to annul the vote. However, Justice Jerome Kitoko said late Friday that Kabila was the winner.

Kabila first came to power after his father's assassination and now has led the massive, mineral-rich Central African nation for a decade. Results released one week ago showed he had 49 percent of the vote, and Tshisekedi with 32 percent of the nearly 19 million votes cast.

Just 24 hours after those results were published, U.S. observers from the Atlanta-based Carter Center founded by former President Jimmy Carter issued a statement saying the vote lacked credibility.

The GOP's 'make-or-break' Sioux City debate: Winners and losers (The Week)

New York ? The Republican presidential candidates made their closing arguments in the final forum before Iowa's Jan. 3 caucuses. Did anyone gain a last-minute edge?

Frontrunner Newt Gingrich was on the defensive ? again ? as the Republican candidates made their closing appeals to voters in the last debate before the Jan. 3 Iowa caucuses officially launch primary season (and inevitably weed out a candidate or two). Gingrich fended off competitors' claims that he's an unreliable conservative, calling them "laughable," and defended his consulting work for Fannie Mae. His chief rival, Mitt Romney, tried to stay above the fray and focus his attacks on President Obama. Who came out best in Sioux City's "make-or-break" debate? Here, a consensus list of the winners and losers:

WINNERS
Mitt Romney
Among the three candidates with any chance of winning Iowa, says Doug Mataconis at Outside the Beltway, "the one that seemed to mostly dodge the fire this time around was Mitt Romney." He took the usual hits on the Massachusetts health care law and his history at Bain Capital, but he wasn't attacked nearly as aggressively as his chief rival Gingrich. "This may end up benefiting Romney in the long run since it seemed, once again, like he was the cool, calm guy standing above the fray while all the other candidates fought amongst themselves."

SEE MORE: Should GOP candidates skip Donald Trump's debate?

?

Michele Bachmann
The Tea Party favorite has tumbled since winning the Iowa straw poll in August, says Shawna Shepherd at CNN, but Bachmann held her own this time. She "had the sharpest attack lines" against Gingrich, saying he has made money through "influence-peddling," even if he's not technically a lobbyist. And she drew applause by calling Ron Paul's anti-war Iran policy the most "dangerous answer for American security" she's ever heard. Bachmann came off as a "true-blue conservative," says William Kristol in The Weekly Standard. This performance might be what she needed to start climbing back into the first-tier.

Newt Gingrich
The man to beat "did face criticism," says Kathie Obradovich at the Des Moines Register, "but it wasn't the open season on Gingrich that the Dec. 10 debate featured." The former House speaker "parried attacks for most of the first hour," and "gained back ground he may have lost in the second half." And the debate closed with the moderators handing Gingrich "a sugarplum," by making everyone "defend negative attacks on each other and giving Gingrich a chance to proclaim his positive campaign." Not a bad final impression with which to leave voters before a crucial vote.

?

LOSERS
Newt Gingrich
The "new Newt" ? the cool, unflappable frontrunner ? was on display much of the night, says Frank James at NPR. "But there were times when old Newt, the consummate Washington insider or proposer of crazy ideas, made an appearance." In those moments Gingrich did nothing to soothe the conservatives he needs to win the primaries, or the independents he would need in the general election.?

Ron Paul
Gingrich's most formidable rival in Iowa, according to polls, is Rep. Ron Paul, says Charles Babington at the Associated Press, but the libertarian-leaning Texan did himself no favors in Sioux City. He "expressed his anti-war, anti-interventionist views so vehemently that he may have turned off mainstream Republicans who otherwise might have helped him to a surprising first-place finish."

SEE MORE: Why Donald Trump dropped out of his own debate: 4 theories

?

Fence-sitters
This was the last chance for GOP primary voters to examine the candidates together, says Dan Balz and Philip Rucker at The Washington Post, but "there was no clear winner Thursday night and no obvious loser." Nobody committed a campaign-sinking gaffe, "and some of the strongest performances were turned in by candidates in the lower tier of the competition." Even Romney, who needs to gain lost ground from Gingrich, refrained from "direct encounters" and aimed his sharpest criticism at Obama. If voters were hoping for a game-changer, they were disappointed.

Sprint, NBA strike multi-year partnership, celebrate with a new Android app

NBA Commissioner David Stern is all smiles these days. Why? Because the most pointless labor dispute in human history has finally drawn to a close, and Chris Paul isn't a Laker. He must also be elated over a new deal the NBA has just signed with Sprint, which replaces T-Mobile as the Official Wireless Service Partner of the NBA -- a phrase that will likely be repeated ad nauseam during every single halftime report this season. Under the marketing partnership, announced on Wednesday, Sprint will launch its own "Sprint NBA Mobile" Android app, giving subscribers access to highlights, stats and the latest news on why Chris Paul isn't a Laker. According to All Things D, an iOS version is still in the works, though it remains unclear whether it will sport the same features as its Android counterpart. Sprint says the app should be available in time for the NBA's December 25th season opener, which won't feature Chris Paul, because Chris Paul isn't a Laker. The terms of the deal weren't disclosed, but All Things D reports that it's valued somewhere "in the millions" -- which should help shore up some of the revenue the NBA will lose in potential Chris Paul jersey sales, because Chris Paul isn't a Laker.

Booie, The Smoking Chimpanzee, Dies At 44

LOS ANGELES -- A chimpanzee that kicked a smoking habit and used sign language to beg for candy has died at a California animal refuge.

Martine Colette of the Wildlife WayStation says Booie (BOO'-ee) was being treated for a heart condition when he died Saturday at 44. The chimp had been living at the animal sanctuary near Los Angeles since 1995, after he retired from a research lab.

Colette says she turned Booie into a non-smoker but couldn't fix his sweet tooth. She says he would use his skill to panhandle by signing: "Booie see sweet in pocket."

Booie's death is a serious blow to the financially troubled refuge because he was one of its best fundraisers. Martine says he had fans around the world because of his TV appearances.

Dell cuts Mini netbooks for non-business customers, ruins Christmas for laptop lovers

If you needed a good, valid reason to Hulk Out today, this might be it. Dell, which recently retired its Streak 5 and Streak 7 tablets, is apparently axing its Mini line of netbooks as well. According to the MyDellMini forums, conducting a search for a laptop with a 10-inch display on the Dell Shop will yield no results, while a search for specific models brings up a variety of messages confirming the world's loss. Fortunately, the full-sized notebooks appear to be in abundant supply, and the search engine will happily suggest one of Dell's 14-inch laptops for $469 and up. Because, you know, a 14-inch machine will totally serve the same purchase as a 10-inch one.
